Master's Degree Options

Upon successful completion of the Bilingual Teacher Pathway Program, the Graduate School of Education will recommend BTP students for an Oregon Initial License and ESL/Bilingual Endorsement to the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission. The Initial Licensure is valid for a period of three (3) years, and is renewable one time, for a total period of six (6) years. Within those six years, however, teachers must qualify for a Continuing License (CTL) in order to continue teaching in Oregon schools by completing:

Credits Applied Toward a Master’s Degree

Graduate Credits Taken Before BA/BS Is Awarded

Graduate Credits Taken After BA/BS But Prior to Admission to Master’s Program

Graduate Credits Taken at PSU After Admission to a Master’s Program

Up to 12 credits of 500 level courses*
Grades must be letter graded B- or higher for those 12 credits
The 12 credits must be taken within the last 45 credits before BA/BS
File GO-10 as soon as possible after admission to a master’s program
These are called Reserved Credits

*Prior to admission to a Master’s program

Limited to 15 credits of 500 level courses (Transfer Credits) from all sources:
- PSU credits prior to admission to Master’s program
- Credits from any accredited institution prior to admission to Master’s program
- Credits from any accredited institution after admission to Master’s program
Grades must be letter-graded B- or higher for those credits
File GO-11 as soon as possible after admission to graduate program
Total limit is 1/3 of the number of credits required for your master’s degree

Resident Credits
GO-12 lists all courses applied to a master’s degree
These credits may not be more than 7 years old upon graduation with a master’s degree
