Q: Is it true that I can only take the ESL Praxis two times?
A: No. It can be taken as many times as you need to. Be aware that there is no alternative assessment for this exam and you must eventually pass it to receive your endorsement.
Q: Can I receive an initial license only without an ESL Endorsement?
A: No. Our program is authorized by TSPC for receiving both initial licensure and ESL endorsement together.
Q: Which tests can be taken with accommodations?
A: All of the Praxis series exams except the language exams (i.e. French, Spanish).
Q: Why is there no CBEST score report in my file?
A: Even though you request PSU to be a recipient of your test scores, they will not send individual reports, only a large report of all people taking the test that day. You will need to provide us a copy for your BTP file.
Q: What happens if I can't take the summer BTP core classes?
A: You will need to take the classes the following summer (since core classes are only offered once per year). If you have to take a core class out of sequence, you will delay your program by one year.
Q: What are the four ESL classes that need to be taken before the ESL practicum?
A: See our suggested sequencepdf file of classes.
Q: Can I take any of these classes with a regular GTEP cohort?
A: No. GTEP courses are different in content and credit than most BTP courses.
Q: How many classes do I need to take per quarter to remain active in BTP?
A: One.
Q: How long do petitions take to process?
A: If they are undergraduate petitions, they go through admissions and records and usually take 2-4 weeks. Keep in mind that sometimes undergraduate petitions are forwarded to the Office of Graduate Studies. If they are graduate petitions, they will take at least 8-10 weeks and up to 6 months or longer. It is your responsibility to check on the outcome.
Q: What happens if a class doesn't show up on my transcript/course roster?
A: You will need to petition to have the class added retro-actively. Contact Lynda Pullen for assistance with the process and procedure.
Q: How do I find out where my class is being taught?
A: Check the class schedule on the BTP website, not the PSU website.
Q: When should I take what tests?
A: See our Professional Exam Timeline.
Q: What if I don't pass the CBEST?
A: If you cannot pass the CBEST after 2 attempts then you can take a Learning Plus class for each section you cannot pass, which will substitute for this exam.
Q: Can I take the CBEST with accommodations?
A: No.
Q: What if I already have fingerprints on file? Do I still have to get them done again?
A: If you are on a transitional license and have submitted fingerprints to TSPC as part of the process, or if you are an instructional assistant and have submitted fingerprints as part of your employment, you may not need to submit additional fingerprints. To determine if you do, go to the TSPC website, click on license inquiry and look for a copy of your fingerprint record. Print this and send it to Deborah Miller (503-725-4758), along with a PA-1 form. If there is no record, you will need new fingerprints.
