What is the Oregon Educator Licensure Assessments (ORELA) Multiple Subjects Examination?

The ORELA Multiple Subjects Examination is a new teacher certification test that was initiated by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) to ensure that high-quality teachers are present in all Oregon classrooms.

Who must take the Multiple Subjects Examination?

Beginning in July 2005, the Multiple Subjects Examination will be required of candidates for initial licensure in Oregon with authorizations at the early childhood, elementary and middle school levels. Reading test objectives have also been developed to test applicants for licensure who have completed accredited programs out of state.

Passing Multiple Subjects Examination

In order to pass the Multiple Subjects Examination, candidates must pass two subtests. The subtest selection depends on whether the candidate has received preparation at an approved Oregon institution or at an accredited out-of-state program.
